I liked Kevyn Morrow as Hades better, but that probably just comes down to the fact that with a character like Hades, stage presence matters a lot, and I saw Kevyn live vs. I think it would have been weird if Levi tried to emulate Andre. Andre DeShields, but I think those were SO different that I could chalk it up to just two performers giving their own spin on the character. It was also different for Hermes with Levi Kreis vs. I saw someone in the comments to the tour trailer on youtube say that Nicholas seems a lot less stiff when he sings and I agree, I feel like every time he busted out those high notes in the Orpheus song (la la la la) I was surprised, probably because he didn't tense up before it. I got used to the cast recording and definitely enjoy it, but it was an adjustment. I saw Nicholas Barasch as Orpheus in the touring cast and had never listened to the cast recording and was really shocked at how different it sounded - I think Nicholas sounded a lot smoother than Reeve, without losing that "head in the clouds" energy. Listening to the cast recording I think Andre is excellent and he brings this cool but weary quality to Hermes that I don't think anyone else can. So it took me out of the show sometimes because Hermes mentions knowing Orpheus' mother and you get the feeling he's been around a long time so it didn't work for me that the actor was so young. He seemed almost the same age as Reeve/Eva. He's a fine singer and did a great job but he's also much younger than Andre. When I saw the show his understudy played Hermes. They all have such unique voices as well and so Orpheus' voice fit. When I saw the show I was blown away by Patrick Page and the Fates. I thought Reeve was perfect to portray someone who's a little off, lost in their own world, naive, and his unusual voice works for me. I quickly got used to it though and I can't imagine someone else in the role. ![]() I saw the show on Broadway without knowing much about it and the first time Orpheus sang I thought it was supposed to be funny but no one laughed.
